- Viacom Announces MTV Networks Chairman and CEO Judy McGrath to Step Down
May 5, 2011 | Viacom Inc. (NYSE: VIA and VIA.B) announced today that Judy McGrath is resigning from her position as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of its MTV Networks division. Ms. McGrath, who began her career with the company as a copywriter at MTV in 1981, was named Chairman and CEO of MTV Networks in July 2004. The company said that a successor would not be named.

The net also bested its closest competitor by double-digits with total viewers (+38%), kids 2-11 (+32%), kids 6-11 (+4%), tweens 9-14 (+0%) and kids 2-5 (+75%).

April 28, 2011 | Thanks to Son of the Bronx, we have Nickelodeon’s primetime cable ratings from last Saturday, April 23. We rarely ever see detailed Saturday ratings (unless they are in a press release), so this is quite nice. The only show that was new on the night was Supah Ninjas (which had the highest K2-11 demo on Nick for the night and highest M12-17 demo rating on all of cable).

April 26, 2011 | Nickelodeon continued its 2011 winning streak, closing April as basic cable’s number-one total day network with total viewers (2.2 million), kids 2-11 (3.4/1.2 million), and kids 6-11 (2.9/626,000). The nets monthly win was fueled by strong performances by iCarly, which scored basic cable’s top entertainment telecast with total viewers (8.8 million) with “iOMG” (Saturday, April 9, 8 p.m. ET/PT), and the newest addition to the net’s hit preschool roster Bubble Guppies, which continues to top as the number-one preschool series on all TV. iCarly also ranks as basic cable’s top entertainment program with total viewers and the month’s top series on broadcast and basic cable with kids 2-11, kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14.

April 19, 2011 | Columbia Records/Nickelodeon will release Victorious, the first-ever soundtrack album from Nickelodeon's hit comedy starring Victoria Justice, on Tuesday, July 12. Featuring music performed by Victoria and the series' ensemble cast, the album will include the singles "Beggin' On Your Knees" and "Freak the Freak Out," along with the show's theme song "Make It Shine." The combined sales of these tracks have accounted for well over 800,000 digital downloads to-date. Victorious will also feature music by Elizabeth Gillies, Ariana Grande and Leon Thomas, plus all-new songs that have never appeared on the show.

- Victoria Justice and the VICTORiOUS Cast Host Nickelodeon’s “The Big Help Earth Day” Programming on April 22
April 18, 2011 | Nickelodeon will go green for Earth Day when the network encourages kids to take positive actions for the environment via The Big Help pro-social campaign and airs special episodes of its popular live-action and animated shows, on April 22. The Big Help Earth Day block, airing in primetime, will be hosted by Victorious stars Victoria Justice, Daniella Monet and Leon Thomas on location in Louisiana, where they participated in the network’s “The Big Help Earth Day in the Gulf” restoration project to refurbish the St. Bernard Parish wetlands outside of New Orleans. The cast will highlight the work and activities from the restoration project throughout the hour-long block that features a new episode of Victorious, guest-starring Ke$ha, airing at 8 p.m. (all times ET/PT), and a green-themed episode of Big Time Rush (“Green Time Rush”) at 8:30 p.m. Nick Jr. and Nicktoons will also celebrate Earth Day: Nick Jr. will air 24 hours of themed programming, and Nicktoons will present a week-long “Dib Saves the Earth” marathon April 18 - 22 at 5 p.m.

April 14, 2011 | Nickelodeon, the number-one entertainment brand for kids, has greenlit a fifth season of its mega-hit comedy series iCarly. The new season will roll out in 2012. Launched in 2007, iCarly, has since become a pop culture staple and regularly tops all basic cable and broadcast TV among both kid and adult viewers. Most recently, the show drew 7.4 million total viewers with the episode "iOMG" (Saturday, April 9, at 8 p.m. ET/PT), which also nabbed basic cable's top spot for the week with viewers P2+. April 8, 2011 | Spring into action with Nickelodeon’s new comedy-adventure series, Supah Ninjas, premiering Saturday, April 16, at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT). Comic book in tone and cinematic in style, the 26-episode, half-hour series follows three unsuspecting high school students who are drafted into the secret world of crime-fighting after Mike Fukanaga (Ryan Potter) discovers he is descended from a long line of ninjas. - IDW Publishing to Release Comic Series Based on “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” for Nickelodeon
April 5, 2011 | More than 25 years after its first comic book, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles return to their roots with IDW Publishing. Today at WonderCon in San Francisco, IDW and Nickelodeon announced a long-term agreement to offer an all-new installment of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics and graphic novels. Starting this summer, IDW’s comic series will bring the “Heroes in a Half Shell” back into action. IDW’s new comics are part of a larger initiative to bring Turtles to a new generation of fans, starting with these new storylines from the original series. Additionally, in fourth quarter 2012, Nickelodeon will premiere a new CG-animated version of the wildly popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise.

April 2, 2011 | Mega-stars including Johnny Depp, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, The Black Eyed Peas, Miley Cyrus, Jennette McCurdy, Eddie Murphy and Shaquille O'Neal reigned as this year's favorites, winning top honors at Nickelodeon's 2011 Kids' Choice Awards live telecast, Saturday, April 2, 8-9:30 p.m. (ET/tape delayed for West Coast). Hosted by actor/comedian Jack Black and broadcast from the Galen Center at USC in Los Angeles, kids' top choices in television, movies, music and sports were revealed via slime slushie, cheerleader and a bear on a unicycle. Black proved that nothing was going to get in the way of his arriving at the venue – especially not a long limo line – by making a grand entrance in the Kids' Choice monster truck. With the help of a dancing flash mob along the orange carpet, he kicked off the slime-fest with a rockin' rendition of The Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling." The KCA and Grammy Award-winning chart toppers then took center stage with a medley of hit songs "Just Can't Get Enough" and "The Time" featuring Black, the honorary Pea.
