May 28, 2002 | Nickelodeon GAS: Games and Sports for Kids and USA Swimming have joined together to produce Splash TV, the first Nick GAS original series. The show, a series about swimming and water sports, will premiere on the Nick GAS block on Nickelodeon on Sunday, June 2, at 3:30p.m. (ET/PT). The show will re-air on Nick GAS at 8pm & 11pm (ET).

Powered by television’s number-one kids’ show, SpongeBob SquarePants, Nick’s Saturday-morning performance this season beat the closest competitor, Kids’ WB, by +53%. Nickelodeon’s first-place domination of weekday afternoons also continued this season, beating number-two Kids’ WB in this daypart by +61% for the season.

For 1Q ’02 with kids 2-11 in total day, Nick averaged a 3.1/21 rating and share (986,000 average kid viewers)—increases of +3% in rating and +7% in delivery over last year’s like time period. The network’s 24-hour average of 1.8 million total viewers for 1Q ’02 marks an +11% lift over like time period last year.

March 12, 2002 | With changes afoot next season in the Saturday-morning TV landscape, Nickelodeon–the number-one entertainment brand for kids--will broaden its offerings and introduce a new programming block for The CBS Television Network’s Saturday-morning children’s schedule, it was announced today by Cyma Zarghami, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Nickelodeon. Beginning in September 2002, kids will get more of their favorite Nick shows on CBS on Saturday mornings --including The Wild Thornberrys and Hey Arnold!--as some of Nickelodeon’s most popular animated series with kids 2-11 make their broadcast television debut. The new series being added to the schedule will be combined with the established Nick Jr. preschool favorites to serve a wider kids 2-11 audience on CBS’s Saturday mornings.
