Disney Channel: Total Day and Prime Highlights

During Summer 2015, bolstered by the premieres of original movies “Descendants” and “Teen Beach 2” and the launch of original comedy series “Best Friends Whenever” and “Bunk’d” – the summer’s Top 4 TV telecasts across major youth demographics – Disney Channel ranked as TV’s #1 network for the 4th summer in a row in Kids 2-11 (689,000/1.8 rating), 7th-consecutive summer in Kids 6-11(504,000/2.1 rating) and 10th-straight summer in Tweens 9-14 (482,000/2.0 rating) and was the #1 cable TV network for the 4th summer running in Total Viewers (1.38 million). This marked the network’s 4th-consecutive summer sweep – dates back to Summer 2012.

Disney Channel towered over Nickelodeon by all-time-high record margins in Total Viewers (+13% – 1.34 million vs. 1.19 million), Kids 6-11 (+47% – 491,000 vs. 334,000) and Tweens 9-14 (+125% – 472,000 vs. 210,000) and by its 2nd-largest margin ever in Kids 2-11 (+8% – 671,000 vs. 622,000).

In Prime, Disney Channel qualified as TV’s #1 network for the 16th-consecutive summer in Tweens (674,000/2.8 rating) and 13th-straight summer in Kids 2-11 (955,000/2.4 rating) and Kids 6-11 (762,000/3.2 rating).

    • The premiere of Disney’s “Descendants” (7/31/15, 8:00 – 10:01 p.m.) was the summer’s #1 scripted cable TV telecast in Total Viewers (12.21 million), the #1 TV telecast across Kids 2-11 (6.18 million/15.8 rating), Kids 6-11 (4.92 million/20.7 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (4.35 million/18.1 rating) and the #6 scripted cable TV telecast for the entire summer in Adults 18-49 (3.06 million/2.4 rating).
    • “Descendants” is now the #5 original movie in cable TV history in Total Viewers – giving Disney Channel the historical record of 6 of the Top 7 original cable movies ever –  the #6 cable TV telecast across Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14 and was the #1 cable TV movie in close to 3 years in Adults 18-49.
    • The debut of “Teen Beach 2” (6/26/15, 8:00 – 9:55 p.m.) was the #2 TV telecast of the summer in Kids 2-11 (4.13 million/10.5 rating), Kids 6-11 (3.39 million/14.3 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (2.96 million/12.3 rating) and the #2 cable TV movie in Total Viewers (8.10 million).
    • Best Friends Wheneverstood as TV’s #1 series in Kids 6-11(1.07 million/4.5 rating), “Liv and Maddiewas the #1 TV series in Tweens 9-14 (1.09 million/4.5 rating) and “K.C. Undercover” was the #1 live-action TV series in Kids 2-11(1.24 million/3.2 rating).
  • Disney Channel aired the Top 4 TV telecasts in Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11 and the Top 15 in Tweens 9-14 (Top 5 below):

24-Hour Disney Junior channel

With record summer highs, the 24-hour Disney Junior channel ranked as the summer’s #1 preschooler-dedicated TV network for the 3rd-consecutive summer in Total Viewers (535,000), Kids 2-5 (250,000/1.6 rating) and Women 18-49 (99,000/0.2 rating), and was the #1 TV network for the first time ever in Girls 2-5 (140,000/1.8 rating). In fact, the channel was a mere 50,000 viewer shy of overtaking Nickelodeon in Kids 2-5, its closest competitive finish to date in the target demographic (250,000 vs. 299,000).

Summer ‘15 vs. Summer ‘14, the channel was the only preschooler network to improve year to year in Total Viewers (+5% – 535,000 vs. 509,000), Kids 2-5 (+3% – 250,000 vs. 243,000), Girls 2-5 (+17% – 140,000 vs. 120,000) and Women 18-49 (+4% – 99,000 vs. 95,000).

  • 24-hour Disney Junior channel delivered the Top 5 series across preschooler TV networks in Kids 2-5 and the Top 4 series in Total Viewers:
  • Disney Junior channel exceeded Nick Jr. by its largest margin on record across all target demographics: Total Viewers (+96% – 535,000 vs. 273,000), Kids 2-5 (+107% – 250,000 vs. 121,000), Girls 2-5 (+115% – 140,000 vs. 65,000), Boys 2-5 (+95% – 109,000 vs. 56,000) and Women 18-49 (+98% – 99,000 vs. 50,000).
  • Disney Junior channel towered over Sprout by triple digits across the board: Total Viewers (+325% – 535,000 vs. 126,000), Kids 2-5 (+410% – 250,000 vs. 49,000), Girls 2-5 (+483% – 140,000 vs. 24,000), Boys 2-5 (+336% – 109,000 vs. 25,000) and Women 18-49 (+241% – 99,000 vs. 29,000).
