Disney Channel: Total Day and Prime Highlights

ZappedDuring Summer 2014, bolstered by the premieres of original movies “Zapped” and “How to Build a Better Boy” and the launch of original comedy series “Girl Meets World” – the summer’s Top 3 telecasts across major youth demographics – Disney Channel swept Total Day for the 3rd-consecutive summer, ranking as TV’s #1 network for the 3rd summer in a row in Kids 2-11 (822,000/2.1 rating), 6th in Kids 6-11 (592,000/2.5 rating) and 9th in Tweens 9-14 (509,000/2.1 rating), and was the #1 cable TV network for the 3rd summer in a row in Total Viewers (1.53 million).

Competitively, Disney Channel surpassed Nickelodeon by double digits for the 6th-straight summer in Tweens 9-14 (+58% –509,000 vs. 323,000 – 2nd-largest advantage ever) and 3rd in Kids 6-11 (+31% –592,000 vs. 453,000) and led by 2% in Kids 2-11 (822,000 vs. 804,000).

In Prime, Disney Channel qualified as TV’s #1 network for the 15th-consecutive summer in Tweens (688,000/2.8 rating) and 12th straight in Kids 2-11 (1.05 million/2.7 rating) and Kids 6-11 (814,000/3.4 rating).

  • The premiere of original movie “Zapped” (6/27/14, 8:00 – 9:45 p.m.) was the #1 TV telecast across Kids 2-11 (3.95 million/10.0 rating), Kids 6-11 (3.15 million/13.3 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (2.87 million/11.9 rating) and was the #1 cable TV movie in Total Viewers (5.78 million). Notably, “Zapped” remains the #1 cable TV telecast year to date across Kid 2-11, Kid 6-11 and Tween 9-14 demographics.
  • Girl Meets World” and “Sofia the Firststood TV’s Top 2 series in Kids 2-11 (2.06 million/5.2 rating apiece) while “Girl Meets Worldwas the #1 TV series in Kids 6-11 (1.61 million/6.8 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (1.52 million/6.3 rating).
  • Disney Channel aired TV’s Top 6 telecasts in Kids 2-11 (Top 5 below), Top 4 in Kids 6-11 and Tweens:

24-Hour Disney Junior channel

The 24-hour Disney Junior channel ranked as the summer’s #1 preschool-dedicated TV network for the 2nd-straight summer in Total Viewers (498,000), Kids 2-5 (238,000/1.5 rating), Girls 2-5 (117,000/1.5 rating), Boys 2-5 (121,000/1.5 rating) and Women 18-49 (92,000/0.1 rating), posting solid double-digit gains over Summer 2013.

Summer 2014 vs. Summer 2013, the channel surged by 27% in Total Viewers (498,000 vs. 392,000), by 21% in Kids 2-5 (238,000 vs. 197,000), by 30% in Girls 2-5 (117,000 vs. 90,000), by 13% in Boys 2-5 (121,000 vs. 107,000) and by 18% in Women 18-49 (92,000 vs. 78,000).

  • 24-hour Disney Junior channel delivered the Top 5 series across preschool TV networks in Kids 2-5 and the Top 3 in Total Viewers:

  • Disney Junior channel exceeded Nick Jr. by its largest margin on record across all target demographics: Total Viewers (+65%– 498,000 vs. 301,000), Kids 2-5 (+83% –238,000 vs. 130,000), Girls 2-5 (+86% –117,000 vs. 63,000), Boys 2-5 (+81% –121,000 vs. 67,000) and Women 18-49 (+77% –92,000 vs. 52,000).
  • Disney Junior channel towered over Sprout by triple digits across the board: Total Viewers (+274% –498,000 vs. 133,000), Kids 2-5 (+284% –238,000 vs. 62,000), Girls 2-5 (+277% –117,000 vs. 31,000), Boys 2-5 (+290% –121,000 vs. 31,000) and Women 18-49 (+241% –92,000 vs. 27,000).
