NICKELODEON TOPS BASIC CABLE, WINS WITH KIDS AND TOTAL VIEWERS
Sam & Cat is Week’s Number-One Live-Action Series; SpongeBob SquarePants and Sanjay and Craig are Top Animated Series with Kids; Paw Patrol and Dora the Explorer Lead Preschool Demo
NEW YORK – Jan. 22, 2014 – Nickelodeon closes the week (1/13/14-1/19/14) as the top basic cable net, leading among Kids 2-11 (2.8/909K, up +8% over last year), Kids 2-5 (3.7/465K, up +6%) and total viewers (1.7M, up +15%).
The network’s weekly ratings performance was driven by the Saturday-night (1/18/14) premiere of the special one-hour Sam & Cat episode, “#TheKillerTunaJump: #Freddie #Jade #Robbie”, which drew 4.8 million total viewers and ranked as Nick’s highest-rated telecast with Kids 6-11 (10.5/2.1M) since 2012. The hit series was a ratings win with Kids 2-11 (8.0/2.6M) and Kids 6-11, while also taking the top spot with Tweens 9-14 (8.8/1.8M).
SpongeBob SquarePants led the week as the top-rated animated series with Kids 2-11 (5.4/1.7M, up +13% over a year ago), Kids 6-11 (5.3/1.0M, up +10%) and total viewers (3.3M, up +9%). With Kids 6-11, SpongeBob was followed by Sanjay and Craig, which averaged a 4.1/798K with the demo.
Paw Patrol continues its winning streak, ranking as the top preschool program for the week (6.8/848K with K2-5), followed by Dora the Explorer (6.2/770K, with K2-5). Both series have posted double-digit, year-over-year increases among preschoolers with Paw Patrol up by +42% and Dora showing gains of +72%.
