Disney Channel Kicks Off 2014 With Total Day Sweep Across Major Youth Demos, Marks Over Two and a Half Years of Dominance in Kids 6-11/Tweens

24-Hour Disney Junior channel Sets All-Time Weekly Highs, Beats Nick Jr. by its Largest Competitive Margin on Record in Total Viewers, Kids 2-5 and Girls 2-5

Disney Channel: Total Day and Prime Highlights

For the week of December 30, 2013, fresh off the heels of its 2nd-consecutive Total Day sweep in 2013, Disney Channel kicked off 2014 with another sweep, ranking as TV’s #1 network for the 3rd-consecutive week in Kids 2-11 (1.03 million/2.6 rating) and for the 134th week in a row in both Kids 6-11 (785,000/3.3 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (712,000/2.9 rating) – dates back to week of 6/13/11. Moreover, Disney Channel set a 5-month high in Kids 6-11 and over 5-month high in Tweens – since weeks of 8/5/13 and 7/22/13, respectively.

  • Disney Channel has out-delivered Nickelodeon by at least double digits for 113-straight weeks in Kids 6-11 (+41% – 785,000 vs. 557,000) and for the 115-consecutive weeks in Tweens 9-14 (+97% – 712,000 vs. 362,000) – dates back to week of 11/7/11 and 10/24/11, respectively.
  • For 2013, Disney Channel ranked as TV’s #1 network for the 2nd-consecutive year in Kids 2-11, 3rd in Kids 6-11 and 5th in Tweens 9-14, marking the network’s 2nd-straight sweep across the major youth demos. Further, Disney Channel out-performed Nickelodeon by its largest margin on record in Kids 6-11 (+36% – 627,000 vs. 461,000) and Tweens 9-14 (+80% – 552,000 vs. 306,000).

In Prime, Disney Channel stood as cable TV’s #1 network for the 451st-consecutive week among Kids 6-11 (909,000/3.8 rating – 8+ years) and 188th-straight week among Tweens 9-14 (804,000/3.3 rating – 3+ years).

24-Hour Disney Junior channel

The 24-hour Disney Junior channel opened 2014 boasting all-time weekly highs across all target categories: Total Viewers (600,000), Kids 2-5 (290,000/1.9 rating), Girls 2-5 (140,000/1.8 rating), Boys 2-5 (149,000/1.9 rating) and Women 18-49 (111,000).

Moreover, Disney Junior channel stood as TV’s #1 preschool-dedicated Total Day network for the 40th-straight week among Total Viewers, Kids 2-5 and Boys 2-5 each week since reporting ratings publicly on 4/1/13 for the 23rd in Girls 2-5 and 28th in Women 18-49.

  • Disney Junior channel exceeded Nick Jr. by its largest margin to date in Total Viewers (+70% – 600,000 vs. 352,000), Kids 2-5 (+78% – 290,000 vs. 163,000), Girls 2-5 (+75% – 140,000 vs. 80,000) and Women 18-49 (+76% – 111,000 vs. 63,000), and its third largest on record in Boys 2-5 (+82% – 149,000 vs. 82,000).
    • Notably, Disney Junior has defeated Nick Jr. for 40 consecutive weeks in Kids 2-5 and Boys 2-5 – each week since reporting ratings publicly – for the 23rd-straight week in Girls 2-5, 28th in Women 18-49 and for the 39th time in the previous 40 weeks in Total Viewers (Nick Jr. tied for #1 during week of 6/3/13), despite being in 12.5 million fewer homes.
  • Disney Junior channel surpassed Sprout by triple digits across key demos: Total Viewers (+237% – 600,000 vs. 178,000), Kids 2-5 (+277% – 290,000 vs. 77,000), Girls 2-5 (+250% – 140,000 vs. 40,000), Boys 2-5 (+303% – 149,000 vs. 37,000) and Women 18-49 (+192% – 111,000 vs. 38,000).
