Disney Channel: Total Day and Prime Highlights

For the week of December 9, 2013, driven by popular Disney and PIXAR theatricals, “Tangled,” “Monsters Inc,” “Ratatouille” and “Cars,” Disney Channel ranked as cable TV’s #1 Total Day network in Total Viewers (1.76 million) and extended its streak as the #1 TV network to over two-and-a-half years in Kids 6-11 (547,000/2.3 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (493,000/2.0 rating) – dates back to week of 6/13/11.

Disney Channel has out-delivered Nickelodeon by at least double digits 110-straight weeks in Kids 6-11 (+31% – 547,000 vs. 417,000) and for the 112-consecutive weeks in Tweens 9-14 (+79% – 493,000 vs. 275,000) – dates back to week of 11/7/11 and 10/24/11, respectively.

With two weeks remaining in 2013, Disney Channel currently leads Nickelodeon among Kids 2-11 as TV’s #1 network on a Total Day basis by a close margin (936,000 vs. 934,000) after having won the demographic outright for the first time ever in 2012. Further, Disney Channel has the #1 TV series (“Jessie”) and the #1 cable TV telecast (“Teen Beach Movie”) in the key demographic.

Moreover, Disney Channel will rank as TV’s #1 network for the 3rd-consecutive year in Kids 6-11 (627,000/2.7 rating) and for the 5th-straight year in Tweens 9-14 (552,000/2.3 rating), towering over runner up Nickelodeon by its largest margin on record: by 36% in Kids 6-11 (627,000 vs. 461,000) and by 80% in Tweens 9-14 (552,000 vs. 306,000).

In Prime, Disney Channel stood as cable TV’s #1 network for the 448th-consecutive week among Kids 6-11 (835,000/3.5 rating – 8+ years) and 185th-straight week among Tweens 9-14 (803,000/3.3 rating – 3+ years), and was the #2 network in Total Viewers (2.36 million), giving The Walt Disney Company the week’s Top 2 most-watched cable TV networks (#1 ESPN – 3.46 million).

24-Hour Disney Junior channel

The 24-hour Disney Junior channel stood as TV’s #1 preschool-dedicated Total Day network for the 37th-straight week among Total Viewers (401,000), Kids 2-5 (188,000/1.2 rating) and Boys 2-5 (103,000/1.3 rating) – each week since reporting ratings publicly on 4/1/13 for the 20th-consecutive week in Girls 2-5 (85,000/1.1 rating) and 25th in Women 18-49 (86,000).

  • Disney Junior channel exceeded Nick Jr. for the 37th week in a row in Kids 2-5 (+26% – 188,000 vs. 149,000) and Boys 2-5 (+29% – 103,000 vs. 80,000), for the 20th-straight week in Girls 2-5 (+23% – 85,000 vs. 69,000), for the 25th week in a row in Women 18-49 (+51% – 86,000 vs. 57,000) and for the 36th time in the previous 37 weeks in Total Viewers (+33% – 401,000 vs. 302,000; Nick Jr. tied for #1 during week of 6/3/13), despite being in 12.8 million fewer homes.
  • Disney Junior channel surpassed Sprout by triple digits across key demos: Total Viewers (+182% – 401,000 vs. 142,000), Kids 2-5 (+185% – 188,000 vs. 66,000), Girls 2-5 (+136% – 85,000 vs. 36,000), Boys 2-5 (+243% – 103,000 vs. 30,000) and Women 18-49 (+197% – 86,000 vs. 29,000).
