First Slugterra TV movie announced for spring 2014
October 3, 2013 (VANCOUVER, CANADA) – Nerd Corps Entertainment announced today that the first ever Slugterra TV movie, Slugterra: Ghoul from Beyond, is in production for a spring 2014 release. The original one commercial hour production will continue the story of the Slugterra TV series, which currently airs worldwide on Disney XD and free TV.
“The creative team is excited to continue the adventures of Eli Shane with this extended story as he explores uncharted territory and is faced with unprecedented challenges,” said Asaph Fipke, Supreme Commander at Nerd Corps Entertainment and creator of the property.
In Ghoul from Beyond, a new danger emerges from beyond the 99 caverns of Slugterra, and Eli and the Shane Gang rush to the rescue. But nothing can prepare them for what they encounter: a slug that can do something no one in Slugterra has ever seen—or heard—a slug do before! Traditional slugslinging no longer applies—Eli will have to engage in a very different kind of duel to save Slugterra…and himself.
“We’re very excited to present the next chapter in the world of Slugterra, both as licensed global property and a narrative,” said Ken Faier, el Presidente at Nerd Corps Entertainment. “It brings new opportunities for distribution and sales, unique product tie-ins and promotions for licensees, which we are currently working on with our partners.”
Slugterra has seen a growing number of successes at retail around the world this year. The toy line from JAKKS Pacific is currently available at Toys“R”Us and includes collectible slug figures, blasters and darts, which launched in spring 2013. Human and vehicle figures will be introduced fall 2013, followed by plush and stretchy velocimoph fliers in spring 2014.
The first shipment of toys sold out immediately in South Africa, and sales continue to grow at Smyths in the UK week over week, with Toys“R”Us and The Entertainer carrying the line later this fall. The toys will launch in additional territories this fall, including mass retailers in North America in 2014.
“The line is exceeding retailers’ expectations in multiple territories as global rollout continues,” said Juli Boylan, Head of Global Consumer Products at Nerd Corps. “We have the makings for a new evergreen property with Slugterra, which kids around the world connect with on multiple levels—through retail, online, mobile, and of course TV—and we’re thrilled to be taking that to the next level with the movie.”
Several new licensing and distribution deals have been signed for the brand this year. New licensing categories launching around the world in 2014 include stationery, apparel, dress-up, trading cards, back-to-school, snacks and more in North America, Central and South America, the Middle East and Europe.
To support the growing brand, two new Slugterra Flash games and two new iOS games will be launched globally in 2013 /2014, along with ongoing social media engagement with the property’s growing audience of boys 6-11 around the world. The first Slugterra iOS game has hit #1 spots in the App Store in 11 countries, and the brand has more than 20.7 million online game plays and 6.6 million YouTube views to date.
