Disney Channel: Total Day and Prime Highlights

For the week of January 7, 2013, Disney Channel dominated the kids’ TV landscape for the second consecutive week, sweeping #1 Total Day ranking across all TV in Kids 2-11 (952,000/2.4 rating), Kids 6-11 (608,000/2.6 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (521,000/2.2 rating) and standing as the #1 cable TV network in Total Viewers (1.743 million), topping Nickelodeon (1.696 million) for the 2nd week in a row. In fact, in Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14, Disney Channel has been TV’s #1 network on a weekly basis for 83 consecutive weeks in the target demos.

Moreover, Disney Channel surpassed Nickelodeon by double digits for the 62nd consecutive week in Kids 6-11 (+52% – vs. 400,000) and 64th straight week in Tweens 9-14 (+80% – vs. 290,000), recording its 2nd-largest competitive advantage ever over Nickelodeon in Tweens.

In Prime, Disney Channel extended its streak as the #1 cable TV network to 402 consecutive weeks in Kids 6-11 (983,000/4.2 rating – over 7 1/2 years) and to 138 consecutive weeks in Tweens 9-14 (847,000/3.6 rating – over 2 1/2 years).

  • For the 2nd consecutive week, an airing of Disney’s “Tangled” (Thu., 8:00 – 9:50 p.m.) ranked as the week’s #1 scripted cable TV telecast in Total Viewers (4.2 million) and TV’s #1 telecast in Kids 2-11 (2.0 million/5.2 rating); “Austin & Allywas #1 in Kids 6-11 (1.6 million/6.6 rating) and “Shake It Up” #1 in Tweens 9-14 (1.5 million/6.3 rating), with Disney Channel airing the Top 10 TV telecasts in Kids 6-11 and Top 11 cable TV telecasts in Tweens overall (Top 5 below):

Disney Junior Preschooler Block

For the week, Disney Channel’s daily programming block for kids age 2-7 and their caregivers, Disney Junior, delivered the week’s #1 cable TV series with newcomer “Sofia the First” – launched on Friday with three weekend encores – in Kids 2-5 (789,000/4.9 rating) and Girls 2-5 (471,000/6.0 rating), and was the week’s #1 cable TV series across kid cable networks in Total Viewers (2.3 million) and Women 18-49 (475,000/0.7 rating).

  • Friday’s regal launch of “Sofia the First” (1/11/13, 9:30 – 9:55 a.m.)became the #1 preschool series launch in cable TV history in Girls 2-5 (673,000/8.6 rating), Adults 18-49 (948,000/0.8 rating) and Women 18-49 (710,000/1.1 rating), and was the most-watched preschool series launch in over six years in Total Viewers (2.7 million), and #2 most-watched in the past 12 years overall, behind only the network’s “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” (2.8 million, 5/5/06).
  • With “Sofia the First,” “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,“ “Doc McStuffins” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,“ Disney Junior held theweek’s Top 4 cable TV series in Kids 2-5 and the Top 4 preschool cable TV series in Women 18-49:
