Disney Channel: Total Day and Prime Highlights

For the week of December 31, 2012, Disney Channel celebrated the New Year with its most-watched opening week in the network’s history – and 20-week highs (since week of 8/20/12) – ranking as TV’s #1 network in Total Day across Kids 2-11 (1.15 million/2.9 rating), Kids 6-11 (774,000/3.3 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (658,000/2.8 rating), and the #2 cable TV network in Total Viewers (2.09 million), behind only College Football Bowl-powered ESPN. This marked the network’s 82nd consecutive week at #1 in Kids 6-11 and Tweens, and its 61st (+42% – vs. 545,000) and 63rd straight weeks (+74% – vs. 378,000) boasting double-digit wins, respectively. In fact, it was the network’s 2nd-largest competitive advantage ever over Nickelodeon in Tweens.

In Prime, Disney Channel extended its streak as the #1 cable TV network to 401 consecutive weeks in Kids 6-11 (1.10 million/4.7 rating – over 7 1/2 years) and to 137 consecutive weeks in Tweens 9-14 (914,000/3.8 rating – over 2 1/2 years).

  • Friday’s basic cable TV premiere of “Tangled” (8:00 – 9:45 p.m.) ranked as the week’s #1 scripted cable TV telecast in Total Viewers (5.40 million), and TV’s #1 telecast in Kids 2-11 (2.64 million/6.7 rating), Kids 6-11 (1.73 million/7.3 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (1.31 million/5.5 rating). A Saturday morning encore (9:00 – 10:45 a.m.) was also solid, standing as the week’s #2 scripted cable TV telecast in Total Viewers (4.66 million) and TV’s #2 telecast in Kids 2-11.
