“Robot and Monster” Premieres Saturday, August 4 on Nickelodeon

Robot and Monster

Nickelodeon has begun airing teasers (see it on Nick.com) for their new 26-episode animated series Robot and Monster. The series will premiere Saturday, August 4 at 11 a.m. ET/PT.

The series is more than three years in the making, first being announced as a pilot pick-up in June 2009, with the now unused subtitle “Best Friends Forever.” Co-creator Dave Pressler announced on his blog in February 2010 that the show was picked up for a full series and work had begun on the first episodes. The series was then officially announced as a full series at the Nickelodeon upfront in March 2011 and once again mentioned at this year’s upfront.

However, The Animation Guild Blog reported on May 12 that the show “got pink-slipped before the show had its network launch.” I’m sure it’s always possible they’d order more if the show is a success, but given Nick’s last year of ratings downfalls, I wouldn’t hold my breath on that.

UPDATED 8/4/12: Grilled Cheese Deluxe interviewed co-creator Dave Pressler who indicated that the series has not be canceled, but has been picked up for 14 episodes that would make the second season if the network orders them to be animated (they’ve already been written, recorded and story boarded).

Either way, tune in for the premiere on August 4!
