Kids’ Choice Awards Day – What’s on the Schedule?
On Nickelodeon
Today is Nickelodeon’s big day. The Kids’ Choice Awards is always a big draw for the network, and the programming for the day overall usually reflects Nick’s desire to entertain those anticipating the awards ceremony. Regular Nick viewers will be there, of course, but today’s is also a day for them to grab as many occasional viewers as well as others tuning in because of a certain celebrity that will be on the awards show, but aren’t regular Nick viewers. That’s why it’s important for the network to put on their best show – all day long.
This year, with Nickelodeon sinking fast in the ratings, they are pretty much doing everything they can to make this one jam-packed, new-programming filled day.
From 10am-12:30pm, Nick has new episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, T.U.F.F. Puppy, The Penguins of Madagascar and Power Rangers Super Samurai.
Before the big show, Nick has a new episode of FRED: The Show starting at 7:30pm.
The coveted post-awards spot is going to newcomer How to Rock. Given the show’s ratings decline every week since its premiere in February, this will be a much needed boost. How much of the KCA audience will stick around for the new episode is still the big question. No doubt it will still be a sizable boost for the show.
On Nick’s Other Networks – Nicktoons, TeenNick and Nick Jr.
As they do every year, Nick likes to program light low-rated programming opposite the Kids’ Choice Awards. Typically, Nicktoons and TeenNick go “off-the-air” with a message telling viewers to watch the awards. However, this year, they are both programming low-rated shows, not expected to steal away any audience from the big show.
Nicktoons has Ricky Sprocket: Showbiz Boy for two hours starting at 7:30pm. The show hasn’t been on the air since April 2010, so it is a nice DVR-treat for any fan that might want to check it out again.
TeenNick’s schedule is a little odd, but will somehow include a few episodes of The Facts of Life between 7:45pm and 9:30pm. The ‘80s classic joined the network on March 12, but just on weekday mornings at 7am.
Nick Jr. is going with three hours of Oobi – the show they like to choose when any major preschool programming in airing on big Nick in primetime. The eyes-on-a-hand show will air from 7-10pm.
What’s On The Other Networks?
Not interested in the KCAs? Well, I’m sure you’ll be able to find something else to watch. Disney Channel has a Jessie marathon from 7-10pm, Cartoon Network has the classic movie Space Jam on at 7pm, Disney XD’s going with a catch-up marathon of all the episodes of Lab Rats from 7-9:30pm and The Hub is sticking with new programming – keeping new Dan Vs. and Transformers Prime from 8-9pm. I wouldn’t be surprised if those end up being the lowest rated episodes ever – but I’m sure The Hub will realize that and not hold it against either show. Kudos to them for keeping new programming though – they’re on my DVR list either way!
Times for Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel and Disney XD are ET/PT. Times for Nicktoons, TeenNick and The Hub are ET only.
