“Winx Club” 411: Series Premieres Tonight on Nick

Many questions have been asked since Nick announced they had acquired Winx Club and would co-produce two new seasons. Questions like: What episodes will Nick air? Will they use the 4Kids English voice track? Etc.

First off, Winx Club premiered in 2004 in Italy, where the series was created (by Iginio Straffi) and is produced (by Rainbow S.p.A.). 4Kids Entertainment acquired the series and began to air it on 4Kids TV in the United States. The series last aired in July 2010 on The CW4Kids programming block.

Nickelodeon has assembled their own voice cast for the series. This will mark the third English voice track for the series, others being the 4Kids version and one by Cinélume in Canada.

Let me try and summarize the episode situation for you:

  • Seasons 1 and 2 (26 episodes each) will be cut down into four, one-hour movies on Nickelodeon. The first of which premieres tonight.
  • Seasons 3 and 4 (26 episodes each) will air in full on Nick starting sometime this fall. Season 4 will be United States premieres.
  • Seasons 5 and 6 (26 episodes each) will be co-produced by Nickelodeon and begin to air sometime in 2012.
  • Two CGI feature films have also been released. Nickelodeon has acquired them along with the series, but no air dates have been announced yet.

Lastly, Viacom (the parent company of Nickelodeon) announced a minority investment in Rainbow Group in February 2011.

The first one-hour Winx Club special premieres tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon.
