- “Josie and the Pussycats” Rock Boomeroyalty on Boomerang in July
June 29, 2010 | In 1970, Hanna-Barbera released a show that would take both the cartoon and music worlds by storm. Josie and the Pussycats, based on Dan DeCarlo’s Archie Comics comic book series of the same name, debuted with 16 episodes that originally aired Saturday mornings on CBS. In 1972, the show was re-conceptualized as the spin-off Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space. Reruns and a guest spot on The New Scooby-Doo Movies kept the show going well into the 70’s, and a 2001 live-action movie attested to the show’s timeless appeal. Now Boomerang, the commercial-free home of classic animation, celebrates summer with a little rock ‘n roll, naming Josie the featured star of July’s Boomeroyalty weekends. Beginning July 3, the network with showcase favorite Josie and the Pussycats episodes every Saturday and Sunday, 2 - 4 p.m. (ET).
