DINOSAURS COME TO LIFE IN JURASSIC PROPORTIONS ON DINO DAN, NICK JR.’S NEW SERIES PREMIERING SUNDAY, OCT. 17, AT 7PM (ET)
NEW YORK, Oct. 7, 2010 – Dinosaurs are coming to life on Nick Jr.’s Dino Dan, a new half-hour preschool series premiering with two back-to-back episodes on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 7:00 p.m. (all times ET). The 26-episode series combines live-action with CG-animation to create an adventure-filled modern day world where dinosaurs roam freely – at least in the imagination of the title character, Dan. Following the Oct. 17 premiere, Nick Jr. will air two weeks of brand-new episodes, Monday, Oct. 18 –Thursday, Oct. 21; and Monday, Oct. 25 – Thursday, Oct. 28 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The Dino Dan premiere will be simulcast in full on Nick Mobile and the series will air everyday at 5:00 p.m. ET on Nick Jr. The series is developed and produced by Sinking Ship Entertainment.
“Kids are fascinated by dinosaurs and with Dino Dan, we’re providing our audience with a unique opportunity to witness dinosaurs come to life in a modern day setting,” said Teri Weiss, SVP, Nickelodeon Preschool. “Dino Dan is unlike any other show on TV and continues Nickelodeon’s tradition of offering educational and high-quality programs that will allow our viewers’ imaginations to run freely, just like the dinosaurs do on the show.”
Dino Dan stars Jason Spevack (Ramona and Beezus, Sunshine Cleaning) as 10-year-old Dan Henderson and features a cast of photo-realistic, CG-dinosaurs. Not only is Dino Dan an expert in dinosaurs, he’s also an expert in getting his friends and classmates incorporated into his adventures.
Each episode of Dino Dan will address issues such as having to deal with a younger sibling, going to the dentist or trying to win a game at school. The series will also teach preschoolers interesting and scientific information about dinosaurs from new species to dinosaur vocabulary (warm-blooded, scavenger, bipedal, etc.). Dino Dan will pose a question or a dinosaur issue, such as how fast they can run or what they eat, that will bring the prehistoric animals into the episode.
The premiere episode of Dino Dan will feature the following stories:
“The Chicken or the Dino” – Ms. Carver has a very special surprise for the class today. She’s brought eggs to the classroom and it’s up to Dan, Angie, Cory, Kami, Ricardo and Jordan to figure out what sort of animals will hatch from them. As expected, Dan thinks that they’re dinosaur eggs. He’s proven right when a Baby Brachiosaurus hatches out of one of the eggs.
“Bones in the Backyard” – When Trek and Tristan find a bone in the schoolyard, Dan’s pretty sure it’s one of the many horns from a Stygimoloch skull and he’s determined to prove it. Luckily, in Mrs.Hahn’s art class they’re making paper-mache models and Dan teaches Mrs. Hahn, Cory, Angie, Ricardo, Kami and Jordan how paleontologists use models to learn about dinosaurs.
