Fred: The Movie is Basic Cable’s Top TV Movie in 2010 with Kids 2-11 and Kids 6-11
NEW YORK–Sept. 20, 2010–Fred Figgelhorn is not just an internet sensation anymore! In its premiere on Nickelodeon Saturday night (Sept. 18, 8 p.m. ET/PT), Nickelodeon’s Fred: The Movie drew 7.6 million total viewers (+201%), and became this year’s number-one TV cable movie with key kid 6-11 and kid 2-11 demos, posting huge triple-digit gains and averaging a 15.4/3.3 million K6-11 (+202%), 14.8/3.1 million T9-14 (+279%), and 11.3/4.0 million K2-11 (190%).
Leading up to the premiere, Nick.com launched a Fred: The Movie page, which generated more than half a million visits (Insert launch date). A Fred-themed Game-of-The-Week, “Figglehorn Fling”, garnered 483,000 game sessions, ranking as Nick.com’s second most popular game of the week. Additionally, Fred videos on Nick.com generated 1.8 million streams.
Fred: The Movie stars Lucas Cruikshank as Fred Figglehorn, one of the most popular internet characters of all time and features iCarly’s Jennette McCurdy as Bertha, WWE’s John Cena as Fred’s dad and Siobhan Fallon as Fred’s mom. The film follows Fred after he discovers his long-time crush, Judy, played by British teen sensation Pixie Lott in her film debut, has moved away. Fred embarks on a journey to find her, and when he does, he’s devastated that he hasn’t been invited to her party. This blow fuels a grand scheme that ultimately makes Fred cooler than his classmates could ever imagine. Fred: The Movie was conceived and developed by Brian Robbins. The film is produced by Robbins and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett of Varsity Pictures and Gary Binkow and Evan Weiss of The Collective. The movie is directed by Clay Weiner and written by David A. Goodman (Family Guy).
Fred the Movie will encore on Friday, September 24 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon. The two-hour movie will also be released on DVD and Digital Download by Lionsgate Home Entertainment on October 5th. The Fred: The Movie DVD features over 2 hours of additional bonus materials including an never-before-seen Fred video, behind-the scenes featurettes and audio commentary with Lucas Cruikshank, director Clay Weiner and writer David Goodman.
