August 28: The Last Day of “Power Rangers” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” on Broadcast TV
Saturday, August 28, 2010 will mark the last day of Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the 4Kids series) being on broadcast television (ABC and The CW, respectfully). Both series will be heading to Nickelodeon and Nicktoons later this fall.
Power Rangers was reacquired by Saban from Disney in May, with broadcasting rights being sold to Nickelodeon in the United States. Nicktoons will begin airing the 700-episode library starting in October. A new eighteenth season will premiere on Nickelodeon and Nicktoons in 2011.
Last October, Nickelodeon bought the entire Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, taking with it the 4Kids television series that started in 2003. The 4Kids series is expected to begin airing on Nicktoons later this fall. The TV movie Turtles Forever will be airing on Nickelodeon this Sunday (August 29) one day after it last airs on The CW4Kids. Nickelodeon has already released the movie on DVD. Nicktoons will also air the movie on Monday, September 6 at 6PM ET.
