Classic Characters Krypto: The Superdog and Gerald McBoing Boing to Join Boomerang Line-up in February

Two New Series Bring Comedy and Adventure to Boomerang for Feb. 5 Debut, Monday-Friday, 6 and 7 p.m.

One’s faster than a speeding bullet and able to chase cars in a single bound.  The other can mimic almost any sound there is but cannot speak.  Two great classic characters—Krypto the Superdog, from the world of DC Comics, and Dr. Seuss’ inimitable Gerald McBoing Boing—are slated to premiere on Cartoon Network’s all-classic cartoon channel, Boomerang, in their newest half-hour animated adventures on Monday, Feb. 5, at 7 and 6 p.m., respectively.

Krypto the Superdog, from Warner Bros. Animation, introduces children to their first canine superhero with special powers.  Krypto was traveling in space as a test-pilot puppy aboard a rocket ship built by Superman’s father when it malfunctioned.  Landing on unfamiliar territory, the planet Earth, the fully grown Krypto swiftly seeks out companionship and flips over Kevin Whitney, a young boy who also longs for friendship.  Endowed with an amazing ray of superhero powers (super strength, super hearing, X-ray vision, the ability to fly), Krypto partners with Kevin to fight evil forces that threaten the safety and well-being of the people and animals of Metropolis.  The two new friends waste no time setting up their secret hideout, the Fortress of Doggietude, Krypto’s alien spaceship buried in Kevin’s backyard.

Krypto the Superdog was first introduced as a supporting character as part of DC comics Superboy series in 1955.  Cartoon Network’s new animated series will be Krypto’s first starring role with his original owner, Superman, stopping by for occasional appearances.  To air on Boomerang at 7 p.m. Monday-Friday, Krypto the Superdog was executive produced by Sander Schwartz along with supervising producers Alan Burnett and Scott Jeralds.  Boomerang will showcase all 39 produced episodes, saving only a Christmas-themed storyline for December this year.

Adapted from the Academy Award-winning short film by world-famous children’s book author Dr. Seuss, Gerald McBoing Boing, produced by The Cookie Jar Company, is a new animated series spotlighting the kid who speaks only in sounds and noises.  Boomerang has access to all 26 episodes, but will present 18 for its first rotation.

While most toddlers were sounding out syllables of the human language, Gerald McBoing Boing was practicing his clanks, bleeps and clamors.  Now the six-year-old can mimic almost any sound there is, and he uses them quite effectively in his playful mischief around his hometown, a charming and carefree suburb.  There are no words whatsoever in the language of sounds and noises that Gerald uses to communicate.  Gerald’s vocabulary of sounds is endless and only adds to his creative and expressive nature.  Although his favorite way to use his unique ability is pulling a fast-one on his parents and neighbors, Gerald can focus his incredible sound-making talent in helpful ways.  But most often, it’s to help fix the damage he himself has caused in the first place.
