[via press release]
The Weirdness Returns to the N’s “O’Grady” as Comedians Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Life), Alonzo Bodden (The Last Comic Standing 3) and Others Guest Star in New Episodes of The Animated Teen Comedy Series
Six New Episodes Of O’Grady To Premiere Friday Nights Beginning April 1
New York, NY, March 15, 2005 — The N, the nighttime network for teens, will premiere six new episodes of its original animated comedy series, O’Grady, featuring special guest appearances by Saturday Night Live comedian Rachel Dratch, Last Comic Standing 3 winner Alonzo Bodden, comedians Todd Barry (Chapelle’s Show, Late Show With David Letterman), Dina Perlman (Law & Order, Sex In The City), Serena Irwin (“Mrs. Squarepants” on Spongebob Squarepants) and writer-comedian Jon Glaser (Late Night With Conan O’Brien, The Daily Show).
O’Grady centers around four quirky teens living in a town plagued by inexplicable phenomena known as “the weirdness” and the new episodes will premiere on the N, beginning Friday, April 1, from 9:30 – 10:00 p.m. (ET). Viewers will laugh it up as Abby, Kevin, Beth and Harold carry out everyday antics including taking care of robotic babies, smuggling sugar, and working the ultimate after-school job as mall cop, all while dealing with uncontrollable “weirdness” including teleportation caused by yawning, aging upon sneezing, and unexpected bladder issues.
Written and produced by the award-winning production company Soup2Nuts, O’Grady, is a comedic look at real teenage life – the relationships, the drama, and the “weirdness.” Co-created by Tom Snyder and Carl Adams, O’Grady is a cross between Friends and The Twilight Zone, where the real meets the surreal. The series revolves around four self-centered high school students — Abby, Beth, Kevin and Harold — who deal with their everyday teenage existence while putting up with the “weirdness,” an inexplicable, bizarre, phenomena that afflicts their town. The “weirdness,” which comes and goes, isn’t dangerous, but can definitely cause a change of plans. Each week, it manifests itself differently. For example, when you get really angry, your body automatically produces a clone of itself or if you have an insecurity, that particular flaw becomes magnified tenfold. Usually, the people of O’Grady just ignore it – but sometimes they use the “weirdness” to their advantage.
The theme song for the series entitled, “O’Grady (the diary of Abigale Colletti)” was written by Andre Lyman, Director of Animation, Soup2Nuts and sung by teenage recording artist, Kelly Osbourne.
New episodes of O’Grady this April and May, include:
Friday, April 1 (9:30 p.m. & 11:30 p.m., ET) “Robo-Babies”
Featuring TODD BARRY – Mr. Lipschitz teaches sex-ed and assigns students “robo-babies” – robotic babies with all the traits of a human child. Abby gets paired up with Pete and hopes it turns into the real thing, while Beth and Harold fight over the benefits of organic food vs. Harold’s refrigerator playpen. Kevin avoids partnering with Iris and decides to make extra cash by babysitting. All of these babies and the “weirdness” that transports people to different locations when they yawn, has everyone feeling displaced.
Friday, April 8 (9:30 p.m. & 11:30 p.m., ET) “Cop ‘Stache”
Featuring JON GLASER and DINA PERLMAN – Abby changes her look to impress Pete, much to the pain of her friends who discover that the latest “weirdness” makes it impossible to dish an insult. Kevin is focusing on his new gig, the most coveted job in the world — mall cop. A rift is formed when Harold’s crazy obsession with cell phone thong-wearing Stacey (DINA PERLMAN) drives him to attack an arcade machine and Kevin is forced to wield his authority.
Friday, April 15 (8:00 p.m. & 10:00 p.m., ET) “Sugar Hill”
Featuring JON GLASER and SERENA IRWIN – Filthy rich Dr. Steven Lingonberry (JON GLASER) picks O’Grady High as the test site for his new blackberry gadget — the Lingonberry. To qualify, the school must be sugar-free for 30 days straight. Kevin smells sweet opportunity and with Harold as his number two, they smuggle and sell contraband sugar items to the students and staff going through major sugar withdrawal. Beth and Abby have a huge fight which is only made worse by the “weirdness” of random soundtrack music playing to punctuate tense moments. Although the sugar challenge ends, Harold and Abby have set events in motion that may leave everyone empty handed.
Friday, April 29 (8:00 p.m. & 10:00 p.m., ET) “Old Cold” – The “weirdness” is making everyone age as soon as they sneeze, and Kevin can’t take it. After “borrowing” the jacket that has the keys to his brother’s van, Kevin talks Abby, Harold, and Beth into ditching school and taking off for the night. When the van breaks down in the woods, sneezing ensues and everyone gets a glimpse of the future. Kevin is especially happy about seeing a 30-year-old super hot Abby.
Friday, May 6 (8:00 p.m. & 10:00 p.m., ET) “Remotes” Featuring RACHEL DRATCH – In an attempt to get Pete to notice her, Abby forces Beth to break a pact they made a long time ago – to never become cheerleaders. When unstable head cheerleader Brooke (RACHEL DRATCH) selects Abby and Beth for the team after the rest of the squad quits, the battle for Pete begins. Harold and Kevin discover old remotes that don’t work on TV’s – but work on people! Abby uses her remote to get close to Pete, but when Beth’s remote falls into the hands of Brooke’s evil cheerleader lackey, it’s an all out remote control war.
Friday, May 13 (8:00 p.m. & 10:00 p.m., ET) “No Pain, No Gain” (*Season Finale)
Featuring ALONZO BODDEN – Gurus for the New You’s, the world’s hottest makeover show, invades O’Grady High and their latest subject, Jonah, has won Beth’s heart. Jonah asks Beth out on the show’s “Big Date” and with all the cameras around, she seeks Abby’s help with her own makeover. Since the latest “weirdness” makes everyone invincible to pain, Kevin tries out for the town’s annual crazy stunt competition, The Insanity Games. Kevin gives the reigning champ, Flip, a run for his money when he auditions performing outrageous stunts involving a bike ramp, inserting pins in his face and a pool of scorpions. Harold is determined to keep his family’s football legacy alive and joins O’Grady’s team, but not the position his father (ALONZO BODDEN) – an ex-football star — was picturing.
