Private Jets, Adoring Fans and Rock ‘n’ Roll in New Series Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi

Japanese Pop Stars to Rock Out on Cartoon Network Beginning Friday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. (ET, PT)

Hop on the tour bus and join the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle adventure in the new Cartoon Network series Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi.  The 30-minute animated comedy about the fictional adventures of two very real Japanese pop stars, will debut on Friday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. (ET, PT), during Fridays, Cartoon Network’s popular prime time block of animated comedies.

Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi follows the adventures of two very cool, but very different, pop stars as they travel from gig to gig or just hang out in their hometown, Tokyo.  Being famous rock stars, Ami and Yumi tour the globe in their customized tour bus, a veritable condo on wheels with all the major amenities and an ever-changing interior.

Ami is the peppy, positive and resourceful one.  Yumi is the hard-rocking, no-nonsense cynic with an absolutely infallible sense of cool.  Together, these superstars take the world by storm with musical talent, trend-setting style and humor, despite occasional misjudgments from their well-meaning but tragically square manager, Kaz.  Whether they’re jamming with aliens, being chased to the center of the Earth by an obsessed fan or getting knocked into a video game by a tsunami, Ami and Yumi always come out on top – dishing out lessons in J-pop justice and the international language of “cool” along the way.

“Animé was just the beginning of Japanese culture to come to the United States.  Now J-pop culture and music are poised to be the next big thing,” said Sam Register, creator and executive producer.  “Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi is the perfect vehicle to introduce American audiences to this cool group and world of Japanese pop.  It will be unlike anything you’ve ever seen.”

Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi also will feature live-action segments starring the real-life Puffy AmiYumi, and incorporates catchy J-pop hits into each show.
