Four Anonymous Teen DJ’s Rock The Local Airwaves On ‘Radio Free Roscoe’ a New Series Premiering August 1 on The N
NEW YORK, July 9 — The N, NOGGIN’s nighttime network for teens, goes underground on the new humorous teen drama, Radio Free Roscoe. Centered around four high school freshmen who run an underground radio station, the edgy half-hour 26-episode series will premiere on Friday, August 1 at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT) and will air regularly Fridays at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on The N.
Radio Free Roscoe, created by brothers Will and Douglas McRobb (The Adventures of Pete & Pete) and produced by Decode Entertainment, follows the lives of four diverse and quirky teenagers living in the fictitious suburban town of Roscoe, North America. Determined to pave their way at Henry Roscoe High School, Robbie McGrath, (Nathan Stephenson), Ray Brennan (Ali Mukaddam), Lily Randall (Kate Todd) and Travis Strong (Nathan Carter) launch an anonymous underground radio station where they give a voice to the hopes and fears of their generation. For these teens, everything is changing way too fast: their interests, their friends and the expectations placed on them. Their 4:00 p.m. daily radio show, called “Radio Free Roscoe” on 88.1 FM, helps the amateur DJ’s find their own identity, while the crowd demands they be like everyone else. Radio Free Roscoe is about being a teenager, growing up and knowing you’re not alone.
Co-creators, Will and Douglas McRobb listened to underground radio stations growing up and were inspired by the power of expression that a DJ has under an anonymous persona. “We wanted to create a series that championed the everyday kid and radio is a perfect medium for our characters to find their voices through on-air ‘alter egos,” said Will McRobb. Douglas McRobb, added, “Through Radio Free Roscoe, we hope to encourage young viewers to break out of their comfort zone and continuously question their ever-changing lives.”
In addition to the series’ content on The N’s website, http://www.the-n.com, The N will launch an exclusive Radio Free Roscoe website, http://www.radiofreeroscoe.com, ‘created by’ Ray, Lily, Robbie and Travis in their on-air personas. The site will serve as the web component of their underground radio station and give viewers an inside look at the characters’ real identities including personal profiles and audio clips, a Radio Free Roscoe music library and a virtual tour of the radio studio.
In the premiere episode, Lily starts hanging out with Audrey, the prettiest girl in high school, which really gets the guys attention. At first, the guys can’t believe what they are seeing — their tomboy Lily, in a dress! When Lily starts flirting with Lee Johns, the school’s handsome soccer star, it is Ray that is most effected by what he sees. As Ray tries to sabotage Lily’s plans to get a date with Lee Johns, Robbie and Travis begin to wonder if his feelings for Lily run deeper than friendship. Meanwhile, Audrey tries hard to get Travis’ attention, but he doesn’t seem to catch on. Travis is afraid that Audrey only likes him because he’s mysterious, and worries that she will think he’s a freak once she gets to know him. Through it all, Robbie is spending his free time text messaging a long-distance girl he met on vacation. Will anyone’s love life work out or will they all find out that love really does bite?
Will McRobb began his TV career at Nickelodeon where he created The Adventures of Pete and Pete, co-created the animated series Kablam! and served as story editor on Ren and Stimpy and Doug. On the feature film side, Will co-wrote the hit movie Snow Day for Nickelodeon and Paramount, followed by a screen adaptation of the best-selling teen novel, Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging. In addition to working on Radio Free Roscoe, Will is currently writing screen adaptations of The Cricket in Times Square and Artemis Fowl for Miramax Pictures.
Douglas McRobb co-created Radio Free Roscoe with his brother, Will and the series marks Douglas’s first significant foray into television. His love of radio, dating back to his days as a college DJ, also helped inspire the concept for the series. Douglas was previously a story editor on Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete & Pete for two seasons, and co-wrote an episode. In addition, he wrote the play, Trombone On The Moon, which was performed in New York City in 2002. Most recently, Douglas completed a screenplay, Wilderness, which happens to be about a radio DJ.
