The N Announces Summer 2003 Programming Highlights

THE NETWORK FOR TEENS KICKS OFF FIVE NEW ORIGINAL SERIES AND A NEW SEASON OF ‘DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION’

‘OUT THERE,’ ‘GIRLSTUFF/BOYSTUFF,’ ‘LOL WITH THE N,’ ‘RADIO FREE NUTLEY,’ And ‘GIRLS V. BOYS’ To Premiere Beginning May 23

New York, NY, May 8, 2003 – The N, Noggin’s nighttime network for teens, heats up this summer with new programming every Friday night, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. The N will premiere five new, original series, Out There (Friday, May 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT), GirlStuff/BoyStuff (Monday, May 26 at 6:00 p.m. ET), LOL With The N (Friday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m. ET), Radio Free Nutley (Friday, August 1 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT) and Girls V. Boys (Friday, August 1 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT).

The network’s signature series, Degrassi: The Next Generation will kick off a brand-new season with a special 90-minute ‘date rape’ episode (Friday, July 11 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT). Degrassi will continue to tackle the most controversial adolescent topics throughout the season. In addition, viewers can get a sneak peak of the upcoming season while they catch-up on their favorite Degrassi shows during a weekend-long Degrassi marathon of back-to-back episodes every night from 6:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m. ET (Friday, July 4 – Sunday, July 6).

The new ‘Summer in The N’ schedule is as follows:

  • OUT THERE – (13 new episodes) Out There will kick off with a special two-hour series premiere (four back-to-back episodes) on Friday, May 23 from 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT) and will air Fridays at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on The N.

Out There is a smart, hip new drama for teens starring newcomer Doug Smith, whose older brother, Gregory Smith plays ‘Ephram Brown’ on The WB drama, Everwood. Miller (Richard Wilson) and Fiona (Molly McCaffrey) are two Australian teenagers living in the small country town of Wollemi, Australia when Reilly (Doug Smith), a spoiled, rich, American kid from Connecticut and Aggie (Jade Ewen), a British animal-lover, come into their lives. The series explores the personal turmoil and social misadventures of the group, as they navigate the obstacles of adolescence. Set in and around the Wild Spring Veterinary Clinic, their lives are further complicated by real-life animal emergencies in the Australian outback.

  • GIRLSTUFF/BOYSTUFF – (26 new episodes) GirlStuff/BoyStuff will premiere Monday, May 26 at 6:00 p.m. (ET) and will air weekdays at 6:00 p.m. (ET) on The N.

GirlStuff/BoyStuff is a new half-hour animated series that follows the lives of six teenagers and explores what it’s like to be a teen from different perspectives of both boys and girls. Each episode features the responses of each gender to the same events with hilarious results. Reanne, Talia, Hanna, Jason, Simon and Ben are best friends who are always there for each other — to keep it real, to tease, and when life sucks. The gang is at an exciting, but awkward time when the rules of survival have suddenly changed and social risk-taking is a crazy rush of anxiety. They help each other through difficult teenage events including making an idiot of yourself in front of the opposite sex, and mindlessly insulting a friend’s clothes. Every trip to the mall is an adventure and watching a movie in the basement becomes a source code language.

  • LOL WITH THE N – (4 new specials) LOL With The N will premiere Friday, May 30 at 7:00 p.m. (ET) and will air Fridays at 7:00 p.m. (ET) on The N.

LOL With The N is a series of four stand-up comedy specials featuring professional stand-up comedians and amateur teen comics performing for the very first time. Being a teen can be scary all on its own– try being a teen performing stand-up comedy in front of a live audience! Taped on location at New York City’s Gotham Comedy Club, each half-hour episode will spotlight four comedians — two adults and two teens. In addition to the performances, each show will highlight exclusive backstage footage that gives viewers an inside look at the teens’ pre-performance jitters, styles and methods used to practice their lines.

  • DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION – (11 new episodes) Degrassi: The Next Generation will kick off with a special 90-minute ‘date rape’ episode on Friday, July 11 from 8:00 – 9:30 p.m. (ET/PT) and will air Fridays at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on The N.

Degrassi: The Next Generation marathon will air from Friday, July 4 – Sunday, July 6 with back-to-back episodes every night from 6:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m. (ET).

Degrassi: The Next Generation, The N’s hit teen drama, kicks off a new season with a 90-minute episode that tackles the controversial topic of date rape. The new season will feature subjects including, eating disorders, safe sex, alcohol abuse and death. Degrassi introduces a new generation of kids going through the trials and tribulations of adolescence in the 21st century at the newly refurbished Degrassi Community School. The series follows Emma (Miriam McDonald) and her schoolmates, Ashley (Melissa McIntyre), Terri (Christina Schmidt), Jimmy (Aubrey Graham), Sean (Daniel Clark), Manny (Cassie Steele), Liberty (Sarah Barrable Tishauer), Paige (Lauren Collins), Spinner (Shane Keppet), Craig (Jake Epstein), Marco (Adamo Ruggiero), Ellie (Stacey Farber), Toby (Jake Goldsbie), J.T. (Ryan Cooley) and Hazel (Andrea Lewis), as they journey through junior high school.   • RADIO FREE NUTLEY – (13 new episodes) Radio Free Nutley will premiere with a one-hour special, Friday, August 1 at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT) and will air Fridays at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on The N.

Radio Free Nutley is a new, light-hearted teen series centered around four diverse and quirky high school freshman in the fictitious suburban town of Nutley, North America. In an effort to pave their own way at Nutley High School, best friends’ Robbie (Nathan Stevenson), Ray (Ali Mukaddam), Lillie (Kate Todd) and Travis (Nathan Carter) launch an anonymous underground radio station and web site which become a voice for the hopes, dreams, fears and confusion of their generation. For these teenagers, everything is changing way too fast: their bodies, their interests, their friends and the expectations placed on them. Follow the group as they try to find their own identity while the crowd demands they be like everyone else. Radio Free Nutley is about being a teenager, growing up and knowing you’re not alone.

  • GIRLS V. BOYS – (6 new episodes) Girls V. Boys will premiere Friday, August 1 at 9:30 p.m. (ET/PT) and will air Fridays at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on The N.

Girls V. Boys is a ‘battle of the sexes’ game show reality series full of teen drama and gender conflict. Each episode pits a team of three girls and three boys against each other in two intense and exciting physical and mental competitions for the chance to score points and win cool prizes. After the first challenge, the winning team is awarded points. But the champs of the second and bigger competition, get to choose between an immediate unknown prize, such as concert tickets, or additional points that count towards the mysterious grand prize revealed at the end of the game.
