Kids’ WB!’S Hot Original “¡Mucha Lucha!” Enters The Ring
(July 13, 2002 – Pasadena, CA) — Kids’ WB!, the #1 broadcast network for kids, announces the debut of the original Latin-themed irreverent comedy “¡MUCHA LUCHA!” on Saturday, August 17 (10:30 a.m. ET/9:30 a.m. PT). The announcement was made today by Donna Friedman, Executive Vice President, Kids’ WB! As the network continues to offer fresh new programming on a year-round schedule, Kids’ WB! will sizzle in August with the all-new animated series “¡MUCHA LUCHA!,” which follows three feisty and loveable kids as they make their way in a bizarre world – where Mexican masked wrestling is a way of life.
“Kids’ WB! introduces its boldest comedy to-date with the innovative and ethnically-diverse ‘¡MUCHA LUCHA!’ joining our top-rated schedule,” said Ms. Friedman. “With irreverent humor and visually-dynamic fantasy-action, this series celebrates Mexican and Latin culture in a way that will appeal to all kids.”
An over-the-top comedy-adventure about honor, family, tradition…and donuts, “¡MUCHA LUCHA!” explores the Latino cultural phenomenon known as “Lucha Libre.” The series delves deep into a world where no one removes their colorful mask ever and success depends on having a “signature move.” “¡MUCHA LUCHA!” follows three mascaritas — Rikochet, Buena Girl and The Flea — who study and live the “Code of Masked Wrestling”…hoping to someday become great masked wrestlers. The first-ever all-flash animated series on broadcast television, this no-holds-barred comedy combines bold humor and exciting graphic designs in two fast-paced 11-minute episodes. Brought to life by the voices of Carlos Alzaraqui, Candi Milo and Kimberly Brooks, “¡MUCHA LUCHA!” is created by Eddie Mort and Lili Chin and produced by Warner Bros. Animation under the creative supervision of Alfred Gimeno, Joel Kuwahara and Michael Ryan.
To coincide with the launch of the series, Kids’ WB! will initiate a groundbreaking interactive campaign that will allow kids to enter a national sweepstakes, “Build Your Own Wrestler,” by logging onto www.KidsWB.com or www.muchalucha.com. Kids will have the chance to assemble their own masked wrestler and submit their creation online. Each week five lucky kid-created wrestlers will be randomly selected to appear on television during the opening main title of “¡MUCHA LUCHA!”
Adding more flavor to this original series, “¡MUCHA LUCHA!” will bring an exciting fresh new sound to kids’ programming with one of Mexico’s hottest up-and-coming musical sensations, Chicos De Barrio, as they perform the original main title theme song. The series also will present a unique array of authentic Latin sounds including Mexican, Rock, Tropical and Pop music. A “¡MUCHA LUCHA!” inspired soundtrack comprised of 13 songs, featuring an extended version of the main title track and various Latin pop artists such as Celso Piña, Volumen Cero, Bacilos, Tito Nieves, Pesado and Frankie Negron, among others from the Warner Music Latina label (Warner Music Group), will be made available on CD and cassette in early August. Songs from the “¡MUCHA LUCHA!” soundtrack will be highlighted throughout the series.
