NICKELODEON HEATS UP THE AIRWAVES WITH TEENICK’S SUMMER CONCERT SERIES KICKING OFF SUNDAY, JUNE 23

Lil’ J Hosts the Series with All-New Performances by O-Town, B2K, Lil’Romeo, Avril Lavigne, 3LW and Mario

Hollywood, Calif. — June 19, 2002 — Nickelodeon’s 2002 TEENick Summer Concert Series sizzles this summer with original performances by some of today’s most popular teen musical artists including Lil’ Romeo, B2K, 3LW, O-Town, Mario and Avril Lavigne. Up and coming artist Lil’ J hosts the series and kicks off the first show on Sunday, June 23, at 8:30 pm (ET/PT) with a performance by Lil’ Romeo. The series will air on Sundays at 8:30 pm (ET/PT) throughout the summer.

‘The TEENick concert series combines two things that kid’s love most – summertime and music,’ said Shelly Sumpter, Vice President of Talent, Nickelodeon and Nick Records. ‘This terrific line-up will serve up the industry’s newest and hottest teen talents to our viewers with a format that’s personalized just for them.’

Each of the original, 30-minute, live-to-tape concerts feature the artists performing their most popular and newest releases. Personalized ‘behind-the-scenes’ segments are woven throughout the musical performances, showcasing the artists in their everyday element like skateboarding, shopping or playing basketball with friends. The specials also feature the celebrities competing in various games and sports challenges like a bike obstacle course, sumo wrestling, slime football or a basketball shoot-out with a dunking in a vat filled with Nickelodeon’s signature green slime at stake. Mati Moralejo (Nickelodeon’s Games and Sports channel spokesman) serves as Games Master for the series. Special guest appearances include Master P and IMX.

Last year’s TEENick Summer Concert Series on average drew almost half-a-million (449,000) tween viewers (kids 9-14). Nickelodeon has been number one with tweens for the past ten years, drawing more kids 9-14 on a 24-hour basis than any other basic-cable network.

Year-to-date during its kids’ programming schedule, Nickelodeon is averaging more than half-a-million tween viewers– a 66% lead over the closest kids’ net competitor. On a 24-hour basis for the year to date, Nick’s also number one with tweens, averaging 374,000 kids 9-14 viewers).
