Marathon’s Holiday Themed Favorites Include SpongeBob SquarePants, Rugrats, The Fairly OddParents, Hey, Arnold!, The Wild Thornberrys and As Told by Ginger

Santa Monica, Calif. — May 9, 2002 — Nickelodeon turns the spotlight on moms with a six-hour Nicktoons Mother’s Day marathon, Sunday, May 12 (noon-6pm ET/PT) of poignant and funny holiday themed episodes of hit series. Shows on tap include SpongeBob Squarepants, Rugrats, The Wild Thornberrys, The Fairly OddParents, As Told by Ginger, Doug, Pelswick and Hey, Arnold! On the heels of the animated celebration, TEENick episodes of the live-action series Caitlin’s Way, Kenan & Kel, 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd and The Brothers Garcia (6-8:30 p.m. ET/PT) – linked with narration about Mother’s Day and the imminent episode — will top off the tribute.

Pre-holiday TV treats are sure to please tots, too. Dora the Explorer premieres ‘El Dia De Las Madres,’ (Wednesday, May 8, 11 a.m.; repeating Friday, May 10, 11:30 a.m.; and Saturday, May 11, 7:30 a.m. on CBS), a bicultural Mother’s Day celebration that ‘takes the cake,’ as Dora sets out to find missing ingredients to bake one for Mami. And a holiday episode of Little Bill will sweeten the mix of shows for small fry (Monday, May 6, 6:30 a.m.; repeating Friday, May 10, 12 p.m.; and Saturday, May 11, 8 a.m. on CBS).

Monday, May 6

Little Bill/’Making Mother’s Day’ — April, Bobby and Big Bill all have Mother’s Day presents for Brenda, but Little Bill left his at school, and he must put on this thinking cap to come up with a special way to celebrate the day. (6:30 a.m.; repeats 5/10 at 12 p.m.; and Saturday, May 11 at 8 a.m. on CBS).

Wednesday, May 8

Dora the Explorer /’El Dia De Las Madres’ – For Mother’s Day, Dora wants to help Papi bake a special cake for Mami, but they have no bananas, nuts and chocolate. With help from Boots, Dora sets out to gather the missing ingredients. Then it’s time for a big celebration with all of Dora’s friends and their mommies! (11 a.m.; repeats 5/10 at 11:30 a.m. and Saturday, May 11 at 7:30 a.m. on CBS)

Saturday, May 12

7:30 a.m. – The Wild Thornberrys/ ‘Gem of A Mother’ — Mother’s Day in Pakistan turns into a perilous adventure for the globetrotting Thornberrys, when Eliza and Debbie compete to give Marianne the ultimate present. After a rockslide destroys the girls’ handcrafted gifts, they hop on their bikes to find a dazzling replacement: precious gemstones in the mountains. A shortcut turns treacherous, though, and when the pair disappears for hours, their filmmaker mom discovers that another rockslide has obliterated the bridge linking them to safety. Never flinching in the face of danger, she uses her skills to save her daughters, clearing the path for a truly memorable Mother’s Day. (Repeats in Mother’s Day Marathon at 4:30 p.m.)

9 a.m. — Rugrats/Mother’s Day special — When Angelica builds a macaroni bust of herself as a Mother’s Day gift, Tommy, Phil, and Lil search for presents for their own moms. And when Chuckie reveals that he doesn’t have a mom, the babies set out to find him one. Candidates include a wire mannequin, Spike, Lil and Angelica. Chuckie soon stumbles across a box containing memorabilia of his late mother, Melinda, and discovers that not only did he once have a mom but that she is still always with him. (Repeats in Mother’s Day Marathon at 5 p.m.)

Mother’s Day Marathon

12 p.m. — Rugrats/’Finsterella’ — Angelica plants seeds of doubt and fear in Chuckie’s mind about his future with a new stepmother and stepsister. He dreams about a ghastly fate in which he works his fingers to the bone, while the other babies get ready for a lavish soiree. No real-life Finsterella he, Chuckie wakes up to a happy ending: a wonderful, poignant party in which Kira and Charles celebrate the adoption of each other’s child.

12:30 p.m. – The Wild Thornberrys/’Black and White and Mom All Over’ — When a seemingly abandoned panda cub adopts Debbie as its mom, Eliza doubts the teen’s ‘parenting’ ability until a monsoon convinces her that Debbie can handle more than she lets on.

1 p.m. – SpongeBob SquarePants

‘Culture Shock’ — There’s a talent show at the Krusty Krab, and anxious to impress his mom, SpongeBob offers to perform. Afraid of an onstage disaster, Squidward delegates him to sweeping up. But determination will pay off for SpongeBob when he becomes the Grand Finale.

‘Grandma’s Kisses’ — When SpongeBob’s Grammaw gives him a kiss in public, the guys at work tease him about being a baby. Embarrassed and humiliated, SpongeBob and Pat resolve to become more adult and to tell Grammaw that she can’t kiss them anymore. But Pat caves completely and laps up all of Grammaw’s affection, and a jealous Spongebob finally cops to the fact that he loves her kisses and will never be embarrassed about them again.

1:30 p.m. — Hey Arnold – Miriam decides to visit her mother after learning that Big Bob and Helga are vacationing at the same time. Now father and daughter must spend some quality time together. The rocky week ends with the two of them bonding over a bad musical.

2 p.m. – Rugrats

‘Family Reunion’ — En route to the Pickles family reunion, Angelica tells Tommy that all parents give their children away to other parents at family reunions. A terrified Tommy recruits the help of all of his cousins and they search for their own set of folks at the reunion.

‘Mommy’s Little Assets’ — Charlotte gets stuck taking Tommy and Angelica to the office with her where they wreak havoc and almost blow a deal, but she discovers that they are her most precious assets of all.

2:30 p.m. – Pelswick/’Nursing Home Alone’ — When Gram-Gram checks herself into a Nursing Home, Pelswick decides something is seriously wrong and enlists his friends’ help to bust her out.

3 p.m. – The FairlyOddParents

‘TransParents’ – Timmy’s wacko teacher, Mr. Crocker — a firm believer in the existence of Fairy Godparents — demands a parent-teacher conference when Timmy brings an extinct dinosaur to Show and Tell. Loathe to explain the dinosaur to his parents, Timmy enlists Cosmo and Wanda to pose as his human Mom and Dad, which plays right into Crocker’s hands.

‘A Partnership’ — While preparing for his parents’ anniversary, Timmy inadvertently sparks a fight between Cosmo and Wanda, causing Cosmo to run home to mother. Cosmo’s mommy, who never liked Wanda, plots the couple’s break-up. Timmy must travel with Wanda to Fairy World, rescue Cosmo from his mother, get Cosmo and Wanda back together and return to Earth in time to give his parents their anniversary gift.

3:30 p.m. – Doug

‘Doug’s Servitude’ – After breaking his mom’s keepsake, Doug aims to keep Judy quiet about it by agreeing to be her slave for a week. Finally he realizes that the only way out is to tell the truth.

‘Doug’s Monster Movie’ — Doug and Skeeter are having trouble finding a scary monster for their video movie, until the Mayor, spurned by Doug’s mom, starts a ‘beautify Bluffington’ campaign.

4 p.m. – As Told by Ginger’/ Hello Stranger’ — Hoping for a family reunion, Ginger writes a touching poem about her father being a stranger to her and invites him to hear her recite it at the school arts fair. When flowers arrive, but dad’s a no-show, Ginger finally realizes her mother sent the bouquet and tearfully thanks Lois for her unconditional love.

that parents don’t always come in the same package, and while his own may not be around, his grandparents have done a fine job of raising him. At the Parent’s Day competition, Arnold learns that even though he doesn’t have ‘real’ parents, his grandparents are just as good as everyone else’s parents.

TEENick Mother’s Day Block

6 p.m. — Kenan & Kel/ ‘Surprise, Surprise’ – Kenan’s mom doesn’t have a clue about the anniversary soiree Roger is planning for her, but with her son and his pal Kel in charge of picking up the cake and gift, the party takes an amazing left turn for all.

6:30 p.m. – 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd/ ‘So Shoe Me’ — Justin (Brandon Gilberstadt) schemes to sidestep the dance classes in which his mom Lisa (Catherine MacNeal) enrolled him.

7 p.m. — Caitlin’s Way/’Mother of the Year?’ — On her first Mother’s Day with the Lowes’, Caitlin (Lindsay Felton) comes to realize that she can honor her late mother and celebrate the holiday with Dori (Cynthia Belliveau), her ‘new mom,’ too. Initially, though, their relationship quakes after Griffen (Jeremy Foley) submits a video about Dori for the coveted ‘Mother of the Year’ Award and she inadvertently views a painfully critical Caitlin on the tape. The argument that flares between Caitlin and Dori finally flows into mutual understanding — and a first-time expression of love.

7:30 p.m. — As Told by Ginger/’Nurses Strike’ – Lois (voice of Laraine Newman) mortifies Ginger (voice of Melissa Disney) by launching a house-cleaning business to earn income during the nurses’ strike. However, when Ginger must roll up her sleeves to keep her allowance, she gains a newfound respect for her mom.

8 p.m. — Brothers Garcia/ ‘Don’t Quit Your Day Job’ — The kids try to save themselves and their mom, Sonia (Ada Maris), public embarrassment when she opts to advertise on TV to boost her business, and they wrestle with how tactfully to convey that the ad is a downright disaster.
