Cartoon Network Schedules “Time Squad” Series Premiere

[via press release – original release date uncertain]

TIME SQUAD Enlisted by Cartoon Network for June 8 Series Debut

TIME SQUAD, a new series from creator Dave Wasson, joins Cartoon Network’s Cartoon Cartoon Friday line-up on June 8 at 9:00 p.m. (ET, PT).  Cartoon Network has ordered 26 episodes of the 30-minute comedy-action show, which is produced at Cartoon Network Studios.  TIME SQUAD joins the network’s current slate of original shows, which includes Dexter’s Laboratory, Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo, The Powerpuff Girls, Ed, Edd n Eddy, I Am Weasel, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Mike, Lu & Og and Sheep in the Big City.

In the year 100 million, the earth had reached a state of perfection, peace and prosperity.  But suddenly, one day, history began to unravel. Events in the earth’s distant past were beginning to occur differently, thus affecting the future.  This situation so threatened the earth’s blissful existence that the world’s top leaders created a special group of history enforcement officers to travel through time making sure that history would happen the “right” way.  The street officers of this new division, dubbed Time Cops, travel through time with the motto: “Enforcing the past to protect our future.”

TIME SQUAD follows the adventures of one group of Time Cops.  Officer Buck Tuddrussel, an overzealous tough guy who loves being in charge, is joined by the Larry 3000, a know-it-all robot who thinks his new job, maintaining Time Squad’s history surveillance equipment, is beneath him.  The problem is, neither one of them could tell Napoleon from a delicious cream-filled pastry.  Luckily for them, they’re joined by an eight-year-old orphan named Otto Osworth, the brains and conscience of the group, who gets to realize his greatest dream by living history, not just reading about it.  Together this trio keeps the tattered cord that is history from coming apart, whether it means persuading Einstein to choose a career in science over being a used car salesman or convincing Abraham Lincoln that honesty is indeed the best policy.

“TIME SQUAD is sort of the C-student’s take on history,” said Wasson. “We go for the joke rather than sticking with the facts. And if we educate anyone, it is purely by accident.”

Wasson, who developed the Emmy-winning short “Max & His Special Problem” for Nickelodeon’s “Oh Yeah! Cartoons” program, is a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts.  He also created national and regional ads for clients like Starbucks, NBC and Crayola, winning numerous awards, including a Clio.  Another of Wasson’s shorts has appeared on MTV’s Liquid Television and Night Flight and in the theatrical release Spike & Mike’s Festival of Animation.
