PREMIERE OF NICKELODEON’S TAINA POSTS TRIPLE-DIGIT RATINGS GAINS
Taina Number One with Tweens and Kids 2-11, Wins 7 p.m. (ET/PT) Time Slot
Against All Broadcast and Basic Cable Television Competition
Pasadena, CA – January 17, 2001 -Taina, Nickelodeon’s newest live-action comedy series, scored a 5.5 rating/18 share (1.7 million kid viewers) for its Sunday, Jan. 14, premiere–marking triple-digit increases of 169% in rating and 181% in kid viewers as compared to prior-year levels. Also among kids 2-11, Taina’s strong performance propelled it to number one in the 7-7:30 p.m. (ET/PT) time slot among all broadcast and basic cable network competition. Among tweens (kids 9-14), Taina also was number one in its time slot, posting a 5.7 rating/17 share (1.1 million tween viewers) and recording triple-digit increases of 136% in rating and 158% in tween viewers, as compared to last year.
Taina is Nick’s new live-action series chronicling the life of Taina Morales, a sassy 15-year-old Latina caught between two worlds-the traditional world of her Puerto Rican family and the modern world of her friends and life at the Manhattan School of the Arts. Created and executive produced by Maria Perez-Brown (Gullah Gullah Island) and starring Christina Vidal (Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher; Life with Mikey) in the title role, Taina uses music, dance and comedy to explore this ambitious young girl’s life as she and her friends come of age and work through the fears and insecurities that are part of growing up.
