[via press release – original release date uncertain]

Viva, JOHNNY BRAVO! Cartoon Network Launches New Season of Hot Show

Season Premiere: Friday, July 2, 9:30 p.m. (ET, PT)

Cartoon Network launches the second season of JOHNNY BRAVO (TV-G) on Friday, July 2, at 9:30 p.m. (ET, PT).  Directed by Gary Hartle and produced by Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, JOHNNY BRAVO features an Elvis-voiced, biceps-bulging sultan of self-regard, whose brawn is bigger than his brain and whose ego is bigger than his bright blond pompadour.  Unfortunately, no matter what he does or whom he tries to impress, he always winds up being his own worst enemy.

The season premiere marks the first of 39 new half-hour episodes of JOHNNY BRAVO, which airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. and Fridays at 9:30 p.m.  The July 2 episode features the following three 7-minute shorts:

“Bikini Space Planet”

Gorgeous female space aliens kidnap Johnny to their planet, where he’s forced to undergo a series of mysterious tests.  After passing the test, Johnny is named King of their all-female planet.  Everything goes well until he demands cable TV and exposes the women to Mel Gibson.  Realizing that Johnny is far from perfect, they send him back to earth.

“Moby Jerk”

Johnny wins an all expenses-paid cruise, but at the dock he accidentally boards a galley ship.  The ship is commanded by a tormented sea captain who’s obsessed with finding the legendary Moby Jerk, a rude mer-man comedian.

“A Gel for Johnny”

Johnny’s life takes a turn toward nightmarish when the town’s supply of Mr. Kevin’s Triple-Strength Hair Tonic runs dry.

“Since its launch, JOHNNY BRAVO has consistently been one of our highest-rated shows,” said Mike Lazzo, senior vice president of programming and production for Cartoon Network.  “I think its because everybody, young and old, can identify with this sort of clueless show-off in some way.  There’s a little JOHNNY BRAVO in all of us.”

With the world’s largest cartoon library as its foundation, Cartoon Network moved quickly to become a major investor in original programming.  Starting with the World Premiere Toons program in 1995, Cartoon Network set a goal to produce 48 original 7-minute shorts over two years.  In 1999, more than 500 original shorts have been created or are in production for the network. Now called “Cartoon Cartoons,” these shorts will be showcased throughout the summer of 1999, both independently and as part of their own series
